Free Admission for Spectators
It’s time for one of the most longstanding and cherished holiday traditions in Tempe; the Fantasy of Lights Opening Night Parade sponsored by Wells Fargo! In its 23rd year, the parade will feature as many as 40 units, including floats, balloons, clowns, novelty units, marching bands, and the arrival of Santa Claus. The parade proceeds through Downtown Tempe (route to be announced at a later date).
At the conclusion of the parade is the Fantasy of Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony presented by Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital, in Centerpoint Plaza. Santa Claus will take the stage for his official duties and then takes his seat in Centerpoint Plaza to hear children’s special gift requests. Families are encouraged to bring their own camera for free Selfies with Santa.
NEW for 2015
Please pay attention to the road closures and times; they have changed.
The parade staging area will be on Mill Ave., between Rio Salado and 3rd St, with some units also on 3rd St. Plan accordingly for where you will view the parade as the Lightrail platform at 3rd & Mill is the middle of the staging area. Spectators will need to stand on the sides of Mill Avenue or 7th Street to view the parade.
For your enjoyment, we have added parade announcers who will announce the parade units as they proceed through the route. We are excited to have students from ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication serve as the announcers.
